SAP – a global player ( 3 reports)

Last Thursday, Sept. 29th, Mrs. Schulte Hemming gave us the possibility to get into contact with Mrs. Castell. She works for SAP, the world leader in business applications software.

At first the speaker gave us some general information about SAP and its work for other companies. SAP has created a software which helps other companies to work more efficiently and easily. They started their work to professionalize and equalize the different software most companies  had so far created for themselves only.   Nowadays SAP’s innovative technology helps to control and manage financial issues in different factories worldwide. SAP has its headquaters in Walldorf, Germany, but they are spread all over the world, especially in the United States, India (Bangalore), China and Israel. About 53.000 employees work for SAP.

Mrs. Castell also presented SAP customers and thereby demonstrated how much SAP is part of our daily life, too. The company works for example with Mc Donald’s , H&M , VW and Mercedes. They do not only support big businesses but also smaller ones.

With regard to our future Mrs. Castell also informed us about possible careers at SAP. On the one hand they search for engineers and people who studied IT and on the other hand they also offer jobs for people who studied law, business, communications and translation.

Other software companies like Oracle and Microsoft are not only competitors but also strong partners of SAP.

An SAP – presentation

On Thursday, Sept. 29th 2011 we had a special presentation by Mrs. Castell, who works for SAP and came to our school to tell us about this global player. SAP is all about “helping companies to run better”, it is the market leader in enterprise application software.

SAP was founded in Walldorf, Germany, in 1972 by five former IBM employees. At the end of its first year in business it had nine employees and generated 620,000 DM. In comparison to that it has more than 54.000 employees today in over 75 countries.

In fact, most of us did not know SAP before but all of us know some of their customers like H&M, BMW or Nike, which would not run as smoothly and globally as they do without the software from SAP.

After the presentation we had some time to ask Mrs. Castell some questions, for example, what she does in her job and how she came to work for SAP. She answered every question in an open and friendly way and we did not notice that the lesson was over so quickly and were taken by surprise when the bell rang.

It was a really interesting and informative lesson and we have to say “thank you” to Mrs Castell for her presetation and to Mrs. Schulte Hemming, who invited this interesting guest to our class.

A lesson with Mrs. Elinor Castell

Last Thursday, Sept. 29th, 2011 all students of the English core course had the chance to  listen to a presentation by an employee of the German software corporation SAP. The students were given an extraordinary opportunity to get an insight into the professional world of a global player.

The speaker, Elinor Castell, was until recently an SAP solutions Manager. She showed us the different fields of activities within SAP and also explained the company’s cooperation with distribution partners.  It became clear how important English and other foreign languages are for the professional life.

Due to the fact that Mrs. Castell has work experience with various different companies, she was able to give the students a sophisticated insight into how big companies work.

SAP offers many different career fields that require a certain sprecialization, so Mrs Castell explained which fields of study are in demand at this special company.

For us students it was a short excursion into the world of work. It could also be seen as an impetus for us to “run smarter”.
